  • In 2011, Civil War Study Group Inc. President Pete Rainey led the development of three interpretive panels to memorialize events that took place within Lake of the Woods area during the May 1864 Battle of the Wilderness. The detailed markers include timelines, maps, graphics, and units that were involved. The panels were installed in November, 2011.
  • On May 5, 2014, CWSG unveiled and dedicated a Monument to the Fallen to those who fell, on both sides of the conflict, within the boundaries of modern-day Lake of the Woods, Virginia.
  • In December 2015, CWSG had installed stone posts with brass markers at the location of two historic cemeteries located within Lake of the Woods.
